Happy World Breastfeeding Week friends. Did you even know that the first week of August is set aside to celebrate, educate and inform about breastfeeding?
It is not always easy. In fact sometimes it is downright hard. This picture always reminds me of that. Taken when Emma was maybe a week old, I will never forget this moment. We were struggling so much and this was the first time she latched on and stayed awake! I told Jeremy to hurry up and get the camera, I didn’t ever want to forget that moment.
Sometimes it is absolutely comical, this breastfeeding thing. From spraying my children in the face as they detach just as I am having a let-down, to the acrobatic toddler nursing…it can really be hilarious.
And in that moment when you first put your baby to your breast, it becomes a memory you never forget.

No matter how long you breastfeed, whether it is for 2 days or 2 years. You give your child a gift. You give them the gift of health, happiness, security and love.
And that is what World Breastfeeding Week is all about for me.

Great post! I always thought it the most beautiful sight to see my wife breastfeed our babies, my daughters breastfeeding our grand children and others nourishing their babies not just with food, but with love.
I didn’t know it was world breastfeeding week. Thanks for the reminder. How sad is it that I’m thinking about quitting this week? He’s 11 mo and those 8 teeth are just getting worse! Love your pictures though…I don’t have nearly enough breastfeeding pics!
Ah – this is beautiful…and OH, the photos! I MUST capture some of those moments with #3.
I love this post!! If there had been a ‘breastfeeding week’ when I had MY first baby, what a difference it would have made. Everyone here in the Philippines breastfeeds until the child is ‘long past’ according to the US and I LOVE IT!!! At first they all tried to ‘spare me’ and shelter me from what they were doing but soon found out I am a breastfeeding guru!! How things have changed and SO for the better-it is the way God intended for these little people to be nourished….
