Eleven

We are so different now,
you and I.

I look back through the years
and see babies
embarking on a journey they knew nothing of.

The innocence is gone
the ease of life has vanished.
Your years of school have been replaced
by those of our children.

Remember when the biggest challenge we had
was getting up on time for me to go to work?
When we couldn’t lay in bed all day on a Saturday?

Now our lives are filled with
differently with a joy we wouldn’t give up.

I often wish I could go back
whisper secrets to that girl
just like I would any dear love.

I would tell her it’s hard
it is oh so hard.

I would tell her to not give up
I would tell her it’s worth it
and remind her when she doubts
to keep trying.
to just keep praying and reminding herself
this too shall pass.

We are so different you and I
but the most important part has stayed the same
we love with all our hearts
we are one
forever.
