Our Kids Heads are EXPLODING!

I am really surprised his head didn’t explode. I mean really, so many of his long time loves in one place, in ABUNDANCE. Legos, Star Wars, Legos, Harry Potter, Legos…did I mention Legos?

It was every dream he’s ever had, come true.

Seriously, I thought his head was going to explode with the sheer awesomeness of it all. I wish I had gotten a picture of his face when he saw Darth Vader for the first time. It was priceless. I am just glad I have that memory forever.

Lest you think Seth was the only one who was going nuts with Lego love…

They had an art gallery where you could make Lego art and hang it for all to see. That was where she spent a good chunk of her time. My little artist to the core.  When I asked if she wanted to make a flower to donate to Dell Children’s Hospital she jumped up and down and giddily said, “Mama, I just want to build”.

And then there was Libby. Running to every single Lego creation she could find. When we got to Chewbacca she said, “Look! It’s the big hairy sidekick!”. She was telling me all about Boba Fett and Jengo Fett and the Storm Troopers. But she had just as much love and admiration for the Lego girl (as evidenced by the hug) and went NUTS when she saw Lightning McQueen.

There was truly something for everyone. Elliott loved the Duplo land and didn’t even eat too many of them ;)

The night was perfect until we left. Hungry and tired, we walked around downtown looking for a place to eat. We finally decided on a burger place that was across the street from the convention center. Imagine our dismay when, after walking for about 20 minutes,  we trudged back over there only to find this

The only person who didn’t care was Elliott. He knew he’d get food whenever he wanted no matter what. Nonetheless, we took our tired, hungry hooligans to another burger stop, indulged in cheeseburgers, french fries and a chocolate shake.

While we were sure they would crash on the way home, they all chatted about how excited they were to go home and put together their new Lego sets (yep, I’m a sucker). Poor dears had to wait till morning though, because when we rolled into our driveway at 10pm, we were spent and sent everyone to bed.

If Lego Kids Fest does another event in Austin, we would go again in a heartbeat. Even though I was given the tickets, I would have paid for them. Because really, you can’t put a price on the extreme joy that the evening brought my children.

LEGO Mania

Have I told you my kids are a little obsessed LEGO building? In fact, almost every conversation in our house has something to do with a specific LEGO design or LEGO brick or LEGO set. Each child has their own LEGO “me” that they have built. Seth and Amelia have even made our house out of LEGO bricks.

I love that they put Jeremy, Elliott and I in our bed with Elliott’s crib empty! Such realists. Many parents get worried when their children are quiet, I don’t. I know where they are. They are all in Seth’s room building, creating and imagining.

It is also not unusual for me to hear, “MOM! Come take a picture of our newest LEGO creation! We NEED to send it into the LEGO Club Magazine!” And even though I have yet to submit any pictures, I have taken several.

Last year my friend Heather took her boys to the LEGO Kid’s Fest in Minneapolis. I remember seeing her post and thinking how much I wished there was one in Austin. My kids would go crazy insane with excitement.

Then one day this last winter, Seth excitedly ran to me clutching his LEGO Club Magazine. “MOM!” he said breathlessly, “MOM! Guess what??? We HAVE to go to the LEGO Kid’s Fest in AUSTIN!!!!! It’s coming to AUSTIN!!!!!” His excitement was through the roof and there was no way I could tell him no.

So we are going. August 31, Jeremy and I will be taking all 4 kids downtown to explore the wonder that is LEGO Kid’s Fest. We are all so excited. It will be a great way to celebrate the end of the first week of school. Plus it will be SO much fun to play with all the LEGO creations!

I am super excited to offer one of my lucky readers 2 tickets to opening night (the night I am going to be there!) of LEGO Kid’s Fest in Austin! Oh won’t you come join me and we can have so much fun?
